Education Minister meets the Male’ Zone School Board members

Minister of Education Dr. Mustafa Lutfi met with the School Board members of the Male’ Zone last night. The aim of this meeting was to welcome the members and to discuss the responsibilities of the board.

Speaking at the meeting held at Ghiyaasuddin School, the Minister said that the school boards were established in order to make the running of the school more democratic and to include the ideas of everyone concerning the school in the overall upgrading of education and making the school a healthier environment for education. It also allows the chance to include the ideas of everyone concerning the schools to put an input in the decision making of the schools.

School boards consist of the School Head, PTA Vice Chairperson, School Captain (in Secondary Schools), 2 teachers and 5 parents chosen from the school and 2 members selected by the Ministry of Education.

The Minister also spoke about the importance of making the school environment more democratic and to allow the students to learn how to think in a democratic manner and to learn the democratic skills in order to maintain democracy in Maldives.

Some senior officials from the Ministry of Education participated in this meeting.
