Vilufushi School begins teaching today

The island of Vilufushi in Thaa Atoll which was devastated in the 2004 tsunami is now developed as a ‘safe island’ by the government of Maldives. Much of the island has been reclaimed and the displaced islanders of the island were resettled on their own island in May of this year; four years after the tsunami. Most of the houses in this model island were built by the British Red Cross.

Vilufushi School began teaching their students this morning. The students who had been in different schools of different islands have now been blessed in going back to their own school. The school will cater to students from grades 1 to 10. Teachers who were previously working in Vilufushi School are back in their posts.

On this special occasion we convey our best wishes to the management, staff, students and the parents of Vilufushi School. We hope that with a new beginning, the students would get the motivation needed to move higher in their educational ladder.
