Vice President Faisal Naseem officially inaugurated satellite education in the Maldives, launching the Satellite Hub Centre in Huravee School in Malé City, connecting satellite schools in three islands; Fehendhoo Island in Baa Atoll, and Thinadhoo and Rakeedhoo Islands in Vaavu Atoll.
Vice president participated in the virtual inaugration ceremony from Huravee School while the Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali participated in the ceremony from B. Fehendhoo School.
Satellite Schooling is initiated in islands where schools were shut down due to the lack of students and inadequate facilities.
In Satellite Schools, students are provided with latest technology including chrome books and high speed internet. While the students will physically attend schools in there respective islands, their teachers will be stationed in the Satellite Hub center in Huravee School. Even though classes are held online, there will be two on-site facilitator teachers with the students at all times.
Each satellite school is assigned to a parent school that will oversee the finances of the satellite school, provide assistance and teaching materials as required and provide opportunities for the students to participate in the co-curricular activities and sports activities of the parent school.B. Goidhoo School. V. Atoll Education Centre and V. Keyodhoo School are set as the Parent Schools. Students from Satellite Schools will travel to their parent schools to participate in extra-curricular activities as scheduled.
