President Dr. Mohamed Muizz has inaugurated the National Teacher Training Program.

The ceremony was held this morning at the Central Auditorium of the Maldives National University, attended by Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu, cabinet ministers, and senior government officials.

During the ceremony, the President presented scholarship letters to the 135 students participating in this year's National Teacher Training Program.

Starting a national-level teacher training program was a presidential pledge of President Muizz. As per the President's vision, this program is designed for student starting their A’levels and are interested in becoming teachers. They will complete a Teaching Foundation course alongside their A-level studies before starting the Teaching Degree program in grade 12. Participants in this program will also receive a monthly stipend of 1,500 Rufiya.

The program aims to train students in subjects where there is a shortage of teachers, focusing on specific islands and areas of need.

This program is being implemented under the "Thauleemah Ingilaabee Badhalu (Thaiba)" project established at the MoE with a grant from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE). The Ministry is collaborating with the Maldives National University (MNU) and the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) and Villa College in conducting this program.
