Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has highlighted the importance of the education system in the development and progress of the nation. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the National Teacher Training Program, the Minister stated that the quality of the education system, opportunities, and teaching standards are directly linked to the country's advancement.
The Minister further noted that the Maldives is facing a significant shortage of teachers. To address this challenge, he revealed that the Ministry of Education is undertaking special initiatives under the guidance of the President. As a result, he happily announced that more than 130 Maldivian students have expressed interest in becoming teachers starting from March 2024.
Additionally, the Minister mentioned that efforts are being made to make teaching a respected, honorable, and dignified profession in society. In this regard, he stated that Friday has been designated as a non-working day for teachers to maintain their work-life balance. Emphasizing the importance of respect and esteem given to teachers in developed countries, he stressed the significance of promoting this in the Maldives as well.
In conclusion, Minister said that teaching is a noble and crucial profession, and it is heartening to see students participating in the nation-building process by preparing to become educators.
